100 Grand Bar

HistoryNestlé was inspired to create the $100.000 Bar in 1966 because of the popularity of three TV programs – “The $64,000 Question,” “The Big Surprise” and “Twenty-One.” These were quiz game shows. “The Big Surprise” was one of the first trivia shows. Contestants chose a category and then answered questions whose prizes ranged from $100 to $100,000. Of course, Nestlé had to name it “The $100,000 Bar” and not the “$64,000 Bar” to avoid trademark infringement. The original wrapper included the phrase "A fortune in flavor." The name of this candy bar was changed in 1985 to the 100 Grand Bar. We really don’t know why. Perhaps it was simply because 100 Grand is easier to say. If you know the reason (or want to guess), please email us. Cultural References
