History3 Musketeers was the third candy bar produced by Mars. It’s been around since 1932. They are made in Chicago, Illinois, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and Newmarket, Canada. Originally, there were three pieces in a package which were flavored chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. And that is how it got its name. During WWII, costs rose and sugar was scarce, so the vanilla and strawberry were dropped in favor of the most popular of the three flavors – chocolate. When the 3 Musketeers Bar was introduced, it cost 5 cents and was marketed as one of the largest chocolate bars for the money. It was large enough to share with friends (but you don’t want to!). What, Exactly, is Nougat?Egg whites are whipped until they are light and fluffy. Sugar syrup is then added to stabilize the foam and create a "frappe.” Different flavors are added to create different tastes. How is the 3 Musketeers Bar Made?To make the 3 Musketeers Bar, the nougat is shaped into large slabs and cut into size. These centers are then coated with thick, rich milk chocolate. The process is called “enrobing.” The nougat centers pass under a curtain of the liquid milk chocolate. This coats both the top and sides. The bottoms get covered by a rotating chocolate wheel underneath the mesh belt. |
