History

Angel Mints were created in a small candy shop in Wildwood, New Jersey in 1919. Samples were given to all the locals. So many people said the mints tasted “heavenly” or “divine” that the candy maker decided to call them Angel Mints.

In 1984, Gerald Rehm, a former mayor of Dunedin, Florida, bought the original recipe and manufacturing techniques. He also bought the early 1900s equipment and machinery which had been used all those years to make the mints. He started making Angel Mints and also Salt Water Taffy at the Florida Candy Factory in Clearwater. The candy is still made in 30 pound batches, cooked in copper kettles over old fashioned gas stoves just like it was originally.
