Baby Ruth Candy Bars
Made with lots of peanuts, rich caramel and chewy nougat.
What, Exactly, is Nougat?Egg whites are whipped until they are light and fluffy. Sugar syrup is then added to stabilize the foam and create a "frappe.” Different flavors are added to create different tastes. HistoryHow did the Baby Ruth candy bar get it’s name? The Curtiss Candy Company says that it was named after Grover Cleveland’s daughter, Ruth. However, there is some controversy over the truth of that claim. For one thing, the name Baby Ruth appeared in 1921. The candy bar was originally called Kandy Kake (created in 1900). Grover Cleveland was President first from 1885-1889, then again from 1893-1897. And his daughter, Ruth, died in 1904. So the naming of the candy bar after her seems unlikely. Here is what some people think. The candy was named after Babe Ruth whose fame was on the rise when the candy was renamed. But The Curtiss Candy Company, which, by the way, was located on the same street as Wrigley Field, was not able to secure an endorsement. In order to avoid paying Babe Ruth any royalties, they made up the story about it being named after Grover Cleveland’s daughter. The truth may never be absolutely known. |
