History

Beemans Gum was originally spelled Beeman’s Gum. It was created by medical doctor Edward E. Beeman as an aid to digestion in the late 19 th century. It is made of pepsin powder and chicle. In 1898 it joined the American Chicle Company. Warner-Lambert bought the American Chicle Company in 1962 and continued to make Beemans Gum. They stopped making it in 1978 because sales were slow. In 1985 they began periodic production again as part of their nostalgia campaign. They also brought back Black Jack Gum and Clove Gum.

Cultural References

Prominently featured in three movies - Hot Shots, The Right Stuff and The Rocketeer. It is considered to be the lucky gum of pilots.
