Mounds Candy Bar
History of Mounds Candy BarMounds' original slogan was, "What a bar of candy for 5 cents!" After the war, when all candy prices had to be raised due to the out-of-control prices of the raw materials needed to make candy, the 5 cents slogan had to be changed, because it now cost 10 cents. So they began using "Indescribably Delicious" and "Honest to Goodness Chocolate." Orginally, Mounds was hand-dipped, and then hand-packaged in a foil wrapper. Then, when they got automated machines to shape and wrap it, it was wrapped in cellophane. Eventually, it was given the paper it's in now. Both Almond Joy and Mounds Bar were rated the #1 and #2 candy for many years by Candy Industry magazine. Until 2007, both Mounds and Almond Joy were made exclusively at the plant in Naugatuck, Connecticut which was built in 1922. Operations were then moved to a Hershey plant in Virginia.
